Food

What is your typical meal consist of?

No exotic food, unfortunately... The area where I live now is very hot and dry, so the variety of food is very limited. It becomes even more limited if you are vegetarian. Usually our breakfast is the same: boiled eggs, green salad with tomatoes and onion, bread (white, tastes very similar to Italian ciabatta bread), sometimes butter and sometimes jam. For lunch we usually have rice, and once per week - spaghetti, and so far very rare nshima, which is a traditional Mozambican food made out of maize into a porridge, which we eat with hands, including me :-). Together with rice or nshima we usually have beans, beans and again beans :-) Sometimes fish, chicken or lamb. I am sorry for very personal remarks, but for a week or so, I ate only rice. Rice for lunch, rice for dinner. Plane rice. All because of diarrhea, which is your necessary partner in traveling to Africa :-)

It is possible to get fruits here, but they are quite expensive. But if you would go to the parts of Mozambique close to the Indian ocean, you would enjoy all kind of exotic fruits for a ridiculously small price (of course, it is ridiculous if you compare it with the prices in Denmark!).
